Who Is Misook? Discover the Story Behind Our Brand

The Misook story began back in 1985 when our founder, Misook Doolittle, realized there was a lack of clothes made for women by women. To change this, she started designing clothing that she would actually want to wear. Stuffy suits, itchy materials, and constrictive designs would simply not fit the bill. Inspired by the strong women around her and with a penchant for timeless silhouettes, elegant details, and sophisticated color palettes, she began crafting a brand that was unlike any other. Effortlessly infusing timeless designs with the comfort of modern textiles, Misook was born. Word got out, and it’s no surprise that this concept rapidly garnered a following from women worldwide.

From the start, our vision has been to craft timeless luxury items that are designed for comfort and versatility for women like you. Today, we continue to carry these principles throughout our brand and with every product, we make for you. Our team is led by exceptionally strong women, and empowering one another is at the forefront of our mission.

Our fiercely-smart team of visionaries work together with a singular goal in mind: to create timeless styles for powerful women everywhere. We keep our sights set on sustainability, comfort, versatility, and impeccable style, so you can focus on tackling everything else that your day has in store. We seek to not only create pieces and coordinating separates that uplift you, but we also seek to make the world a better place while we are at it.

For Women, By Design

The fashion industry is inundated with designs “for” women, but they’re not all made by women. This distinction is important to us because we know our bodies best. We are passionate about taking ownership of the styles we want to wear, how we want to dress, and the silhouettes we want to embody. We believe that all women have the capacity to be movers, shakers, and groundbreaking trailblazers in any endeavor they set their minds to. That’s why we seek to uplift the next generation of female leaders in our own communities with flattering, comfortable, and empowering clothes that look as good as they feel. Life may be hectic, but dressing well can be simple. We are here to help make that a possibility by providing you with comfortable, cozy garments that you can actually look forward to wearing while still looking polished and ready to take on anything the day throws your way.

Gone are the days of being told to squeeze into a too-small size. Clothes should be made to fit our bodies, not the other way around. With our detailed size guide, we can help you find the right fit for your body and the perfect silhouette to suit your own personal style. We know that everyone defines beauty differently, and we are here to help empower you to express yourself no matter your shape.

Mindfully Made

Caring for our planet is at the heart of Misook, and it is now more important than ever. We seek to create a more comfortable world and a healthier planet, too. Throughout our evolution as a company, we have been striving to become a better steward of our environment by committing to sustainable practices and creating timeless, enduring styles that break the cycle of constant consumption. We hope to set a good example for other brands so we can all raise the bar and do right by our planet together.

In addition to this, we are mindful of our fabric crafting process as we understand that dyeing practices can be extremely detrimental to the environment. We craft our yarn for our signature knits in accordance with Bluesign® certified safe dyeing practices. Bluesign® is a world-renowned advocate for sustainable textiles and helps to combat one of the most wasteful and hazardous parts of the garment fabrication process, as there are over 900 harmful substances commonly used in dyeing. Bluesign® requires its partners to forego these in favor of cleaner, safer dyeing agents. As part of our adherence to the Bluesign® standards, Misook has also adopted a more efficient dyeing process. We currently use much less water and energy than traditional methods. The result is a better product for you and the environment.

However, we don’t stop there. Our commitment to being environmentally-minded continues into our printing process as well. We employ a made-to-order digital printing process for many of our beloved seasonal patterned woven items. This cuts down on fabric waste by allowing us to craft small, exclusive batches of fabric to suit our exact production needs. This process also uses much less water than ordinary wet printing and allows us to create more intricate, brightly vivid designs.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, over 16 million tons of textile waste is created per year in the US alone. Our recycled knits collection helps us to do our part in combating this wastefulness. After all, one person’s trash is another’s treasure! Instead of the old adage, “out with the old, in with the new,” we are flipping that and taking the “old” in to put out the beautiful “new” pieces you can enjoy for years to come. We are proud to be able to give life to pre-loved materials along with our other consciously-made pieces and hope you enjoy them as much as we do too.
